Electric Falls

As you may know, especially if you follow the photos I post, one of my favorite local shooting spots is call the “Bull Hole” which is an old mill dam located on the South Yadkin River at Cooleemee, NC.

There’s a number of reasons I keep going back to this location to take photographs.

High Noon Blue Falls I love running/falling water and natural rock formations and enjoy pausing for a few moments to sit and listen to the calming sounds. It helps me center myself.

It’s only about 30 minutes from my home.

I also enjoy it because I’m never sure what I’ll find until I arrive. The water level changes rapidly and there’s always a different look and feel to the place. This presents me with a changing challenge of capturing the nature of it at that particular moment.

Then there’s the fact I’ve never been completely satisfied with my efforts to capture the overall view and feel of the dam and falls. I’ve taken photos of different parts I like, but in my estimation I’ve always missed capturing the feel of standing on the rocks and taking it all in. So I keep going back and I keep trying.

Overflow Falls This past Saturday morning was another visit resulting in several photos which are as close to capturing “the feeling” as I’ve come.

I like these photos and while I may not be one hundred percent satisfied, I’m making progress.

The funny thing is that in post-processing each photo seemed to take on a slightly different personality while still remaining true to the scene.
