Natural Passage

“Where there is perhaps a province in which the photograph can tell us nothing more than what we see with our own eyes, there is another in which it proves to us how little our eyes permit us to see.” – Dorthea Lange

This photo, taken this past summer while visiting my daughter in Asheville, NC, is of a path through a tunnel of Mountain Laurel. The scene touched a part of the child in me in that it looked like a wonderful place to play, a place to hide, a place to let the imagination run wild.

As child one of my mothers cousins had a home whose yard had huge Magnolia trees growing with branches touching the ground. Those branches created a natural playhouse that to us young children seemed magical. This pathway called up some of those almost forgotten feelings.
