_EBM1395.jpg What feels like fall, October and the soon to arrive Halloween more then a wonderful “Pick-Your-Own Pumpkin Patch?”

Sunday while en route to a lunch with sister and husband my wife and I passed this pumpkin patch where people were selecting and gathering their own pumpkins.

Giving credit where credit is due, I was driving and didn’t get a very clear view of the patch as we passed, but my wife quickly stated we’d have to be certain and stop on the way back so I could take some photos…good call!

There were pumpkins of all sizes ready for the picking in this creek bottom patch and customers were given a set of different sized rings to determine price.

While I was speaking with the owner he mentioned losing half his crop this year due to recent heavy rains and associated local flooding. Last year, he said, it was so dry the vines had produced only half the pumpkins they normally would. Farming is no picnic.

Of course the patch was well guarded by this rather scary gentlemen. He stubbornly refused to give is name or a comment to go along with the photo. ;-)

  1. This looks like a place that is very close to my house. It’s on Rocky River Road, near Reedy Creek park. I passed there a couple of times this weekend and thought that it would be nice to take pictures near dusk. They offer hayrides, a maze, and ‘pick your own punkin’.

That’s a pretty nice punkin’ you got there in that top shot! Also, those scarecrows don’t talk much at all! I usually just do what the crows do … ignore them! ;-)
