Maggie’s love of the beach is clearly visible on her face as she stares out into the Gulf, Carrabelle Beach, Florida.

Maggie loves walking in the surf along the beach and wading deeper at a sandbar where the beach comes to a point and the water remains shallow well out from shore.

Of course she usually gets a beach walk at least once per day and these photos represent a few of the sights from one of these walks. From the beach access point we normally walk toward the more deserted end of the beach eastward, rather then the public access area so Maggie can run free off-leash.

Barely visible off Carrabelle Beach lies Dog Island and it’s interesting history. During the Civil War, Dog Island was used by the Union Navy as a base for staging the blockade of Apalachicola. During World War II, Dog Island was part of Camp Gordon Johnston. Four separate camps comprised the complex: three for regimental combat teams and the fourth for the headquarters and support facilities. Dog Island was used for amphibious landings and airdrops training for D-day.

Only with a very long camera lens were these structures visible as they appear in these photos. However, being taken hand-held I realize they lack some clarity and focus.

The area is wonderful for boating and fishing. Bonnie and I agree that if we retired here a boat would be a must-have.

A dream of sailing as a boat rests among the beach grass at Carrabelle Beach, Florida.

The pathway to the beach runs between some homes along the shore and as I look at their decks and porches I can’t help but wonder how it would be having my morning cup of coffee there.

We also pass some beautiful flowers along the route from our RV to the beach access path.

Perhaps the daily visits to the beach aren’t just for Maggie! :-)

  1. No those daily visits are also for you and thanks to your blog, also for me. Yippers on the morning coffee off the deck. I’d be over every morning to visit with you. :-)

    • You have an open invitation to join me/us for morning or anytime else coffee, Monte. But alas, I don’t think it will be at this beach home. The price is a little beyond our means. :-) I’m glad you felt you could in some part experience one of our beach walks through these photos. That was kinda what I was going for…to tell the story or provide a visual description of something we do almost daily and enjoy a great deal. Thanks!
