Perhaps it’s not the best of times to do a blog post after being awake most of the night with Maggie trying to find a hiding place in our bed as thunderstorms and rain  pelted the area. She was trembling and shaking so badly it felt like one of those old vibrating beds with an unlimited supply of quarters. Do you remember those beds? Poor girl is still recovering today but she’s at least able to nap.

We arrived in Myrtle Beach this past Sunday after a good days travel and Monday morning started our training.  The trainers are great and also perform the same jobs as we will be doing. They are “retired” from NC and have been doing this job for over 10 years. The training is going well but the days are long by the time we prepare for and complete our homework for the next day. It’s been a while since either of us has had “homework!”

I’m sure an uninterrupted nights sleep will make a positive difference in viewpoints and attitudes — no more thunderstorms tonight, please!

We’ve found out our first job locations could include Tennessee, Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, North Carolina and Florida. It’s still in the planning stage and we’re going to determine what we can and/or want to do in the next few weeks. This company will gladly let us work as much as we’d like but we prefer to remain mostly retired. More to come!

  1. No Italy or Hawaii? Maybe next year. And, what’s this homework thing? Must be one of those retirement things I’m missing out on.
I do feel for pets and people who struggle with thunder or fireworks. Hope she’s going to be okay.

    • I know, Monte, can you believe they didn’t give us those choice assignments! Homework wasn’t fun when I was young and it’s still not fun. :-)
There’s been no additional heavy thunder storms so Maggie’s on the road to becoming normal again.

  2. That’s an interesting list of potential locations. Generally speaking, they’re all “hot-in-the-summertime” states. Well, maybe not Nebraska so much, although one of the hottest and most humid days we ever experienced while travelling was around Omaha. South Texas, of course, can be absolutely brutal.

I hope the weather calms down for you. It’s been a weird Spring. Texas is about to become a giant lake and the south and extreme northeast haven’t been too dry lately, either.

    • Yeah, I figure those are areas no one else wants, especially in summer, so they give them to the new guys. :-) We’re already pushing back on some of the assignments so this might be the shortest employment Bonnie and I have ever had. LOL. But we’re going to give it a try and be positive about it.
