Sunday was an eventful day. We did a short (119mi) hop to Cedar Key, Florida, and just before we departed our dog, Maggie, while staked outside beside our trailer, went tearing after a cat and in the process hurt her back.  The trip itself was uneventful and we really love the RV Park we’re at now, really nice.

It was after we arrived we realized the extent of Maggie’s injuries — she whimpered when she tried to sit or lay down and we’re pretty certain she stood up most of the night before collapsing on our bed for a short while just before sunrise.

This morning, after realizing how bad she was, we started calling local veterinarian clinics and found one that could see her quickly today. The visit went well and there was good news. It appears to be only a whip-lash type injury which should respond to some pain relievers and muscle relaxers over the next couple of weeks.

This evening we went for a quick ride into Cedar Key itself since Maggie seemed better even after one dose of medication.

Coincidently we timed our arrival to enjoy our first sunset on the gulf, as you can see from sunset the photos above. We think we’re all going to love our time here.

  1. Looks like you’ve found yourself a nice spot. Also sounds like Maggie needs to embrace that RV lifestyle and slow herself down a little bit!

    • Tom, I agree with you on both counts. When it comes to a cat, Maggie gets so focused she blocks out everything else — she forgot she was tied and really gave herself a wrenching jerk when she got to the end of the line — so much so she jerked the tie down right out of the ground. :-(

Glad to hear Maggie is okay, whew, that’s scary. Love your photos of Cedar Key at sunset. Such a beautiful place and we loved that RV park as well. The pool is great!

    • Thanks, Kathryn, yes it was very scary. We had tried to get into this RV park when we first came into Florida but they were full up — we’d read such a great review on your blog that we wanted to stay here. Bonnie said if you’re this good at picking places maybe we should just follow behind you! LOL

  3. Love that sunset! I know I’d probably do some damage if I was to chase after a cat so I’ll let Maggie do that and hope she recovers quickly. She’s got a whole lot of adventures ahead of her. Looking at the map of Cedar Key, it seems you are definitely at the end of road. Enjoy!

    • Monte, I’m not even sure a cat would know it was being chased if it was me and for sure I’d be paying for it the next couple days! :-)

Cedar Key is a great older coastal town…maybe it’s the beginning of the road rather then the end? ;-)

  4. Not all of our RV park selections have been as good as that one! We liked the vibe of the entire area. Be sure to check out Shire Island (a bit of a drive) and enjoy the awesome seafood there. We loved the boat tour we took to see some of the islands, too. Many of the restaurants will allow your dog on their deck, if you like to do that type of thing with Maggie.

    • Kathy, thanks for the tips…we’ve added them on our “do list” for our stay here. It’s a bit of “hit-or-miss” on picking RV sites isn’t it, even when carefully researching and reading any and all reviews. This is by far the best we’ve been to thus far and we understand your comment about the “vibe of the entire area.”

  5. I love the Gulf Of Mexico … that’s where I’d be if I could. my mom lives on the northern Gulf Coast. the Destin Florida area

  6. Glad Maggie is okay … that must have been very scary.

    • Thanks and Maggie is much better today. Yes, it was terrible thinking she might be seriously injured. Our minds were going over all the possibilities and what we might have to do but we didn’t want to speak out loud of any of it. Thankfully she’s going to be okay. She’s on restrictions this week! :-)

  7. I figured you might find a place by the water. And you get to see those wonderful pelicans. I love those birds. Sorry to hear about Maggie, but sounds like she’s beginning to recuperate. Personally, I’ve never really liked cats. Sneaky little buggers……

    • Yeah, Paul, this was originally where we wanted to stay when we entered Florida but as I said in a comment above this RV Resort was full up for the time frame we need it so we found an alternate spot and kept checking on an opening here…glad we did!

Maggie’s doing much better today but we’ve been laughing about her being on some good drugs and for those times she’s awake she’ll probably not remember much of the next couple of days.

Yeah…those cats are sneaky and Maggie fell for it, literally! :-)

  8. Well wishes to Maggie! I am glad she is OK.

Darn those cats! At least it wasn’t a skunk. Looks like a really tranquil place by the water EB,
