Illuminated Forest Moment

“You can always amend a big plan, but you can never expand a little one. I don’t believe in little plans. I believe in plans big enough to meet a situation which we can’t possibly foresee now.” ~~ Harry S Truman

After speaking this week with a local real estate agent and hearing how the housing market had picked up some earlier this year but now seemed to be bottomed out again our thoughts of selling our house in the coming year in a reasonably quick or profitable manner have dimmed.  But in reality the news only amends some of the details and timings, not the  overall goal we hold for the future — to move from Salisbury, NC.

We are healthy, safe and sheltered and have everything needed to have patience on our course.

Enjoy the weekend, everyone!

  1. A wonderful image, so evocative of the season that is now unfolding in all its beauty. The economy can play havoc with our plans and dreams, but there will be recovery I am sure. We, over here in the UK, are in a similar situation: judging when we should move and watching the prices. The problem is we wish to downsize but move to a more expensive area. That makes the maths difficult!

    • Thanks, Andy!

We’re looking to downsize as well but haven’t landed the exact location as of yet. However, the process of discovery is turning into an enlightening experience in its own right.

  2. If that view is your front or back yard, I’m all for the move to Salisbury! It strikes me that you and Bonnie will plan big. Look forward to this adventure.

    • Monte, this view is on one of my morning walk routes just a few miles from our house. However, it doesn’t always look like this. My timing was perfect this particular morning. Having big ideas, big dreams has never been a problem for Bonnie or I — now we just need to make some part of them a reality.

Oh…I’d never recommend anyone moving to Salisbury! ;-)

  3. I can attest from recent experience that it is a huge process to think about selling a home. And the process can only be even more difficult when you don’t have a destination in mind.

I am very sympathetic of your current dilemma and only hope that by taking the focus off of the house for the time being you are able to devote your time and energies into finding your path, much like the illumination from the beam of light in your photograph.

    • Emerson’s said it best, “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

The real-estate market, while not what we would have liked, is but a bump on the trail.

I hope you guys found some grand fall colors from your mountain adventure this weekend — please share.

  4. For sure, the real estate market is but a bump in the road, but I’ve seen your house and with all of the quality customizations and upgrades that you’ve put in it, I would think that the market would be shining down upon your house like the light in this beautiful photo! :)

I would think that you’d have an offer pretty fast. That said, probably better to have a destination before selling the house … as sure as you don’t, it’ll sell the first day!

I’m really interested to see where you will land … how BIG you and Bonnie will do it, but alas, like you, I’ll have to be patient, I reckon.
