d600pic

I received my Nikon D600 camera body back from Nikon service today. I’d shipped it to them on February 26th — so about 13 days turnaround, including shipping.

According to the work order Nikon:

  • replaced the shutter mechanism and all related parts;
  • cleaned the image sensor;
  • checked the AF/AE operation;
  • updated the firmware;
  • did a general check and clean.

Cost: 0$

I guess it’s practically a D610 now — I look forward to confirming the results of their work. :-)

  1. I sent my 600 out on Monday but so far I’ve not missed it. The D80 is a great backup and I’m glad I held on to it. I hope you are pleased with the “new” camera. I also hope this puts an end to the spots that I see on many photos, even though I don’t change lenses often.

    • Ken, from an inconvenience point of view I’d only noticed the D600 needing more cleaning then usual but I was worried about the long term effects on the shutter mech. if there was a design problem. It seems to be working “better then new” now. I look forward to moving beyond this now that it’s been addressed.

      Your turn around results may cut a couple of shipping days from mine since since both our repairs points are in NY.

  2. Earl – got mine back today. Looks brand new. Works just fine.

    I am glad Nikon bit the bullet on this and fixed the camera, even thought it took a while.

    • Hi Tom,

      Yeah, I was afraid when they released the D610 that the owners of the D600 were going to be left “in the dust” so to speak. :-) Perhaps part of the delay was assuring a repair procedure for the D600 and then assembling all those needed parts — a shutter mech. for every D600 sold — not a small endeavor!

      My hats off to Nikon for stepping up.

  3. That’s good service. It’s always nice to see big corporations doing the right thing. Enjoy the “new” camera Earl.

    • Yeah, Cedric, it was good for us, the owners of the D600, but I’ve no doubt “doing the right thing” was mostly about Nikon keeping user confidence and future brand loyalty especially now since camera purchases are down and competition is keen.

      But then I’ve become a bit cynical as of late. :-)

  4. I was pretty pleased with their service and turnaround when I sent in my D800 and my 14-24 awhile back. Enjoy that clean sensor while it lasts! :-) I recall those joyous days of not having to spot clean my D800 images. Oh… how those were the good times.
