Maggie at the front door watching it snow.

The major wave of the east coast winter storm begins to roll into North Carolina — here at Salisbury, perhaps 4-8 inches of snow tonight followed by dreadful ice at the end predicted.  I hope the electric stays on but we have gas logs and a gas stove if it doesn’t.

Of course traffic is a mess as people panic and slide about at the first flake.  I don’t know what they would do if we had snows like some have experienced in the northeast this winter.  This area is only a little better then Atlanta at handling winter weather conditions.

The good news is with all the early storm warnings many places, businesses and schools have closed today.

While Maggie looks at it longingly through the door, she’s not so keen to actually be out in the cold and wet.

  1. This has been a particularly harsh winter here and abroad. We have had our power go out in the winter in the past and it’s not fun. I guess the best you can do is keep warm and stay in if at all possible.

    • The worst we’ve ever had it here was long, long ago when hurricane Hugo came through the area — power was out for about 10 days. A hot shower sure felt great after that. :-)

  2. I agree, stay home and work on those images in Lightroom. Even if you went for a walk it could be dangerous with all the ice forming. Yep, keep the slippers on and make a hot chocolate or tea.

  3. Yeah, but you’re going to be at 50 degrees by Sunday and 70 degrees a week from now (the Weather Channel says, anyway). So my sympathy is a little less than whole-hearted!

Just kidding, Earl. Watching those pictures of people stuck on the interstates down there is, to say the least, disconcerting. I remember when we lived in Huntsville, AL, years ago and we had a couple of inches of snow. The whole place shut down. And it was gone in a few hours. So it seems that the white stuff is still a bit of a problem for you guys. But cheer up. When yours is all gone and you’re wearing T-shirts out in the garden, we’ll still be shoveling this crap……..

    • Yeah, Paul, I wasn’t expecting any sympathy from you guys who’ve gotten hit so hard this winter. But then, Salisbury isn’t anywhere near “where life is worth living.” ;-)

  4. I really like the slightly surreal montage created by the reflections. Crazy weather everywhere this winter. We are dry where we live, but elsewhere appalling floods and hurricane winds at times. Worst weather for 250years in places. I think we’ve all had enough of this winter. Stay safe – hope the electric stays on.
