Well I finally did it.  After years of starts and stops I’ve actually gathered together photos for a My Favorites album.  You’ll find these photos for 2012 in the Meandering Passage Gallery here.

Inspiration helping me complete this task was gained from Mark, Monte and all the other photographers who do this each year.

Don’t ask me what method was used to select these photos it was a haphazard process at best — it’s not as easy as it looks. which is why it’s taken me so long to finally do it!  But hopefully, this won’t just be a one time thing. ~wink~

  1. Congratulation on the selection. Not only for the making of each image but also in the selecting. Let me say that “Chaos”, “Fishing Nets” and “Fluttering Leaf” blew me away. Beautiful work.

  2. Congratulations on getting your favorites picked out and posted, Earl! I loved the shots of the owl and the eagle as well as “Fishing Nets” and “Fluttering Leaf”. A great selection!

    • Thanks, Paul. I’ve approached this for a couple of years but have never actually went as far as to post a collection of photos. It’s always come to an uncertainty of which photos and the why I liked them. This year I simply dropped thinking too much about the why and selected some. Perhaps I’ll have a better process for 2013.

      • Earl: I think that it is like anything having to do with art. You know what you like, what resonates with you, but when you try to put it into words, or to quantify it, it defies your every attempt – so, you did the right thing, just rolled with it! :)

  3. Well done and great gallery. You have candid portraits, landscapes, travel, which is indicative of how you and Bonnie live your life. Loved seeing the image of Foster included! Looking forward to seeing your images in 2013.

    • Monte, thanks. My favorites are kinda all over the place which is how I feel about my photography. I seem to bounce around a bit and haven’t found a niche yet that’s particularly mine. Perhaps I never will…and that’s okay too.

Yeah, that Foster photo was a sentimental favorite for sure. :-)

  4. Well, congratulations Earl. Now you are committed! :-) A great set for sure filled with a lot of great memories, even though some of them heart wrenching like noting Foster. I miss those updates on how he was doing.

I must say that the boat shots in the Venice canals are probably my favorites from your shots from Italy, although I also liked a lot of the hallways you did. It would be hard to pick!

    • Mark, Your right! That’s the thing about doing this even once…now I feel like I’ve got to keep it up each year. :-)

Foster is thought of almost every day around here especially when Maggie and I do our daily walks.

It was hard to reduce it even down to this larger group…I gave up on getting it down to 10 or 12.

      Thanks!

  5. Earl, you had a very productive year. My favorite one however is chaos.

    • Steve, I was a little surprised that one, Chaos, made it to the final group but the more I looked at it the more there was something about it that drew me in. Thanks.

  6. Very nice collection, Earl. And I’m glad to say that I was with you for at least a couple of them, maybe three.

I’ve not gotten myself into the “best of” mode yet, but I suppose if I don’t hurry up it will be too late. :)

    • Hi Tom, I don’t think there’s a deadline for “best of” or “favorite” photo sets. ;-)

Absolutely, you were directly there for two of the photos and a third was made shortly after we parted. Perhaps you’re my photographic muse! :-)

  7. I thoroughly enjoyed going through your favorites, Earl. Most of these are memorable for me and I think you choose well. I am surprised that none of the Church photos made the list, though. That was a wonderful series.

    • Thanks, Ken. I thought of the Church photos but I had purposefully shot those to be a coherent group with very similar and cohesive styling in order to “fit” their calendar purpose. Because of that I couldn’t, at least in my mind, easily separate our individual images.

  8. Earl – Now that I’ve seen you and Monte assemble your favorites for 2012, I’m feeling the pressure… Love the collection, the diversity, the shapes. Well done!

    • Jim, Thanks. Just remember, as I’ve been reminded, once you start you may be expected to keep it up. :-)

  9. You have a great eye for spotting the interesting and unusual subject matter that gives your images a cohesive personal style, even though they are in different genres. my favorites are Venice Main Canal, Mall Atrium, Covered Passageway and Bull Hole Falls.

  10. A terrific collection, Earl. Clearly, the trip to Italy fired up your creative juices. It is a gorgeous series with your vision “coloring” each one.

  11. That’s quite a body of work, Earl. Impressive. You might be challenging me to try to compile SOME kind of list of my own. I don’t know what kind it would be, though.

    • Hi Chris, thanks. It’s an interesting exercise to select those photos you most like from a period of time…in this case a year. It makes you questions your preferences and you inner vision.

I’d enjoy seeing what you came up with of your own photos.

  12. I am going to try something like that. I’m not sure a year would be great for me (2012 was just crazy busy) but I’ll think of something.

  13. Earl, it’s amazing to look through your wonderful collection. You are a fantastic photographer and your skills are incredibly diverse. My favourite images are “Fishing Nets” and “Covered Passageway”, I just love how this photo is filled with golden light. Many compliments!
