Autumn Scenes - NC Mountains

After several days of clouds and rain it appears we’re going to have another beautiful weekend weather-wise. Unless the rain has washed it out I believe it will be a peak weekend for fall colors in the North Carolina Mountains.

I won’t be heading that way this weekend. I was more then pleased with the abundance of color we found during last weeks trip (see photos above.)

I’m honor again in being asked to take photographs for the Rowan Helping Ministries Annual Calendar. Last year’s theme was volunteers and the community. This year we’re honoring the founding and current supporting churches. Yesterday, I received the list of the 20 selected churches for photographing. To stay on schedule I’ll need to photograph them all within the next 10 days so I can have some time with post-processing. The calendar will be printed in black and white so I’m looking forward to working with them on that.

Even with busy servers generating “internal error messages” I upgraded to OS X 10.7.2 Lion on my computers, and OS 5 on my iPhone 4 and iPad 1 on Wednesday. Of course this was the iCloud release as well, and while I haven’t had time to really experience it enough to form a clear opinion the possibilities look promising. If Apple handles the performance, scaling and security correctly this could be a killer application/feature.

Have a good weekend!

  1. And, you have a good weekend also!

  2. Congratulations on the calendar gig, Earl. That is quite an honor. It’s a labor of love I assume.

  3. Congratulations on the calendar assignment, Earl. Will you get to photograph inside of the churches, as well? 20 churches in 10 days sounds like quite a task, but I know that you’ll pull it off in style. I’m looking forward to seeing your calendar again. Speaking of which, perhaps I need to get working on my own calendar. It will be December before you know it!

Also, thanks for the tip about the fall colors. I might just have to head up that way.

    • Thanks, Paul. I may take photos inside a few of the churches but it will probably be outside photos on the calendar. I’m heading out tomorrow to get the lay of the land, figure out each churches orientation and calculate the best time of day to photo each one for the best light and hopefully interesting shadows. I want to make the most of doing them in black and white.

      I can’t believe how fast time’s flying by….Oct is already half gone…Mercy!

  4. These are wonderful autumn images, I particularly like the abstract feeling of the first one, the red leaves among all the yellow ones look amazing. I look forward to seeing some black and white images of the churches for the calendar – have lots of fun with that project!
