Paddle boats on the Lake

During a visit to a local park my wife and I sat on a bench under a tree beside the parks lake and noticed a moving light show of reflections against the underside of the overhanging leaves and limbs. I happen to have a camera that also shoots video so I shot a couple of very short (44s & 31s) videos of the light patterns. The videos below don’t capture the feeling of sitting there with moving light all around but you’ll get the idea.

  1. I enjoyed seeing the dappled effect of the light in the leaves and on that branch. The paddle boats would be fun on such a nice lake.

    • Hey Don, Thanks! It’s been so hot I believe the paddle boats wouldn’t be worth the effort at the moment. :-)

  2. The videos are fascinating to watch. I see why you use the video mode, single frame can’t capture the dance. Another step outside the box.

    • Ken, thanks and spot on. Sitting on that bench I couldn’t think how to capture or communicate this fascinating light show with a still image. Then I remember the particular camera I had with me had a video mode. I’m not big into videos but they have advantages in certain circumstances.

  3. I love your “light shows”. Probably not quite as good as being there on that bench, but close enough to stay with me. All those trees are magnificent. What a great way to cope with oppressive heat.

    • Anita, thanks. Event he shade of all those trees doesn’t help much with the heat and high humidity we’re experiencing at the moment. My heart goes out to all those in the mid-west who have been dealing with this for some time now. The forecast predicts it may be a few degrees cooler by this weekend…I hope! :-)

  4. The branch in the second video almost has the look of serpent slithering up the branch. I also enjoy turning on the sound the second time so I could hear the birds singing.

  5. That is an amazing light play, I could watch the video over and over again, it’s to tranquil and relaxing. Your photograph of the paddle boats is fabulous – the reflection in the water and the overhanging leaves frame it beautifully.
