New Fern Growth - Changes of Spring

“The winds of change blow around us all the time — but, we have to make the effort to raise the sails” — Nikki Leigh

Some say I’m not one who takes to change easily and at one time I would agree, although I could name many large changes in my life I initiated. I’m coming to understand it’s not change itself I don’t care for, it’s the surprise of a change. Perhaps this goes back to a feeling of “loosing control” although experience has taught me that no one really has control in the first place.

I’ve mentioned before here that it’s a joke between my wife and I that I require three days notice to handle a major change — after three days I’m okay for the most part. With recent opportunities to practice, those three days are down to between one to two days on average — progress of a sort.

The change I’m talking of now is a minor one…a new color scheme for “Meandering Passage.” I like the basic design of the site so that didn’t changed, but I was feeling a need for warmer (and a bit darker) tones then the grays I was using. So presented here is the new warmer color scheme.

I’m watching now and hoping it’s neutral enough for photographs.

  1. Well, there you go again, confusing people thinking they clicked on the wrong link again. :-) Looks good!

    • Changing the looks…makes you think I’m running from the law or something doesn’t it? ;-)
      Thanks, Mark!

  2. Love the lighting in this image Earl. It feels so warm and really highlights the delicacy of the ferns. It’s such a “tactile” image – You want to reach into the frame and feel the leaves. Also, the closer crop on your front page is especially beautiful.

    • Martina, thank-you. It’s interesting the front page slider images cropped at 3:1 often reveal interesting and uniquely appealing perspectives of images…sometimes more appealing then the original image.

  3. Yes, sounds like you are making progress, Earl. Bonnie is doing a good job. :-) I like this color as the darker tones are more appealing to me.

    • Monte, You’re right, Bonnie is doing a good job. She works in HR and deals with organizational and personal growth and change daily. I get all the “benefits” with my only cost being a little personal anxiety. :-)

Thanks, these darker tones are more appealing to me as well.

  4. This is a fine shot with which to explore the change of site color. All that matters is that you feel it shows you work off as you’d like it to. I change mine at random times just to be have a different look. I tend to like the darker colors because I feel they show the photos better…just a personal view no doubt! :-)

    • Thanks, Don. I agree with you. I think the darker colors do tend to make the photo’s “pop.” However, I’ve seen at times without neutral dark tones it can change the look of photos.

  5. So far, so great with this new look. I like the warmth in it. Perhaps you are using your site as a means of warming up (pun intended) to more change in your life. On the other hand, since we don’t know how many days notice you gave yourself, this may not necessarily constitute progress. ;)

This photo is a major hit with me. The bright sunlight on the leaves with that dark background causes the leaves to leap forward and meet me. Quite pleasing.

  6. Looks good to me Earl. The photos do stand out nicely on the darker background, but it’s not so dark that the type is hard to read. That’s one thing my tired old eyes have trouble with — white type on a black background.

    • PJ, Yeah, I like how the photos seem to “pop” more on a darker background and I agree the text on this scheme is easier on the eyes then before. White text on a black background give me trouble too. Thanks!

  7. I like the new look, Earl. It’s a bit easier on the eyes and the text is very legible. Photos stand out against the neutral background, too. Good change! As for changes in life – you gotta take the bad with the good.
