Earl Moore
Spring in segments - Light Zones

Straight from the camera I noticed this photo contained three distinctive diagonal light zones and the more I sat looking and absorbing the nature of the image, the stronger the urge to amplify and “run with” those zones became. So run I did, and the results are what you’re viewing.

The size and proportion of the zonal areas remained unchanged from the original photo. Using Adobe Photoshop layers and masks each area was individually adjusted for a lighter or darker tonal range — emphasizing each zone. Edging and borders was then applied to make these areas “pop.” The basic image subject matter was also simplified to give a more painted/surreal feel using the Topaz Clean Photoshop Plugin.

This definitely falls into the art category, but it’s not as far a reach from the original photo as you might imagine. While I like the results, I’m still evaluating how I feel about it and exactly what it’s saying but I do feel it’s true to the vision I had for it. It certainly might not be everyones “cup of tea.”

Happy Easter!

  2. This is terrific, Earl. Very imaginative and very well done. The Topaz Clean gives it an illustrative quality.

  3. I love this image. It has a wonderful painterly quality to it and has a contemporary ilustrative style (of which I am a great fan) that tells a larger story than if the image had been left “unedited”. There’s a sort of sadness to it, the bright flowers already whilting…

  4. And, I hope you guys had a Happy Easter. I like what you’ve done to the image and like your art!
