Dancing Light
Sunlight dancing off small waves as the wind blows across a shallow pool set in a granite rock river bottom. The granite is stained reddish orange from the red clay that comprises so much of our soil in this area. Photo made at The Bull Hole, Cooleemee, NC.

It’s a working weekend. I began installing a new server and upgrading from Microsoft SBS 2003 to SBS 2008 at work yesterday. Only one real issue, but I was at it 13 hours today and estimate almost that many more tomorrow. Our DSL Internet connection is so slow it consumed three hours downloading and installing the Microsoft updates to SBS 2008 after the initial install. Then the old installs are configured a little strange and I’m having to trouble shoot and fix things as I go — plus totally different terminology between 2003 and 2008. Luckily the previous I.T. person was a “tech-wiz” and cleaned up some of the original issues.

Still, I’d much rather be making photos somewhere. :-)

  1. Not a great way to spend a weekend, but it’s a great photo. I love the colours and the lines in the water, and the way the whole picture seems to glow.

  2. A beautiful pattern shot. I like the color of the underlying rock and the action on the water. Well done.

    • Don, thanks. I honestly almost walked past this and just happened to look down at my feet as the sun appeared between some clouds.

  3. Your photograph is fascinating. The light and patterns are mesmerizing.

As far as your weekend task goes, you may as well be speaking a foreign language. It sounds as if you are a bit of “tech-wiz” to me.

    • Anita, thanks. I often think I know just enough to be dangerous. What I’m good at is knowing when I don’t know and looking stuff up on the Internet.

  4. I like the appealing color of this image. It’s boldly abstract but so easily recognizable to me. With my transfer back to Denver I will not have the overnights in Charlotte anymore so I’ll need to see more of Bull Hole through yours and Pauls images.

    • Monte, well that’s the color of most of our soil around here, orange-red. I’m happy you’re getting back home but the East Coast will miss you! I’m looking forward to a bunch of Colorado and western states photos now.

  5. Love the photo — great pattern of light. Hope you’re catching a break from all those hours.

    • Thanks, PJ. I believe the break will come in a week or two, after things settle down. But then you’re in a very hectic period yourself with the move. Be sure and find a little quiet time amongst the chaos.

  6. Heck, if you know enough to be dangerous then I should be locked up! :-)

Cool shot. Makes me wish f
