Just before sunset
Just before sunset

It’s quite clear I’ve not yet gotten into a rhythm since beginning the new job this week. I’m far behind on my blog reading, commenting and replying to comments, which I feel bad about. Adjustments are needed so I can keep up with my valued blog friends and happenings.

This first week I’ve felt a little overwhelmed — finding a technical situation of many problems, no documentation and almost no resources. I’m also concerned about realistic expectations. Hey, welcome back to the working world, Earl. ;-)

The photo above was taken a little before sunset along one of the back streets in Salisbury, NC. There are many home of this type to be found here and to me they speak of an earlier age and of Americana. You could find similar scenes in many small American towns.

I’m not totally pleased with the framing of the scene, but modern automobiles were parked along the street in front, which seemed a distraction, so I framed the shot at their roof lines. Processing was done in Topaz Adjust to give a sudo-HDR effect.

  1. Hi Earl,
Welcome back to the workforce. Nightly I wish I had more energy to direct to my artistic side, but work does sap your energy and attention.

I hope you can find a nice balance.

  2. Rest easy Earl, in a few weeks you will find the flow and have the job under control.

  3. A few years ago a co-worker took on a new job and after a couple of weeks described it this way. They directed him to a pile of manure and handed him a shovel. He proceeded to shovel and after two weeks noticed the pile had gotten bigger. At this point he knew a bigger shovel was not going to reduce the size of the pile. Something else needed to be done. I’m assuming you will find a way, enjoy finding the way and feel good about it.

I like this image and did not think anything about the crop. I would agree, the cars would have changed the feel.

  4. I’m sure that you’ll whip that place into shape, Earl. The first few months will a trial, I’m sure.

  5. The colors here are really lovely. I want a house like that! Congrats on the new job!

  6. This is very beautiful! Thanks for sharing
