Lights from the shore
Light from the shore

There’s a pier at Murrell’s Inlet, SC, from which you can look back across the water to a boardwalk lined with restaurants and bars — I’ve posted several photos this last week taken from different points on this pier.

During the day the shoreward view is nothing special but at night this line of establishments comes alive with brightly colored lights making the shore seem almost afire. At night there’s also the competing sounds of live bands and musicians drifting across, or in certain cases blasting across, the water as bars compete for crowds, and there are usually crowds.

Many people walk to the end of this pier at night to stand for a few moments and take in the quietness of the inlet on one side and the bright display on the other. There are usually a few fishermen as well although I’ve never seen anyone catch anything.

Doing justice to the lights along shore at night with the S90 was certainly beyond it’s capabilities and doing so handheld to without blurring was beyond mine. So let’s label this first image a questionable abstract.

The second photo provides a reference for one of those sources of light in the first photo. Bubba’s Love Shak is certainly not alone in it’s unique name — there’s also a Creek RatZ and Drunken Jacks, found on my Flickr photostream below. :-)

  1. I like the row of lighted places taken from your viewpoint. A fine post.

  2. Those handheld shots are difficult to capture and I will agree “abstract” is the appropriate word to describe such images. Piers are one of the things man has built which allows man to enjoy such scenes and the opportunity to move away from the busyness and noise of places Bubba’s and Drunken Jacks.
