  1. Just did it myself – with backups and all. Well, it was the first time. The actual event was rather anticlimactic. I expected pomp and circumstance, instead it was over in seconds :D

  2. @Andreas Manessinger – Anticlimactic is how I like my upgrades to go! ;-)

I do nightly backups so I didn’t do one before the upgrade. I planned on getting a cup of coffee while the update ran but didn’t even have time to get out of my chair before it finished.

  3. For automatic nightly backups I use the WordPress Database Backup (http://www.ilfilosofo.com/blog/wp-db-backup/) and WordPress Backup (by BTE) (http://www.blogtrafficexchange.com/wordpress-backup/) plugins and get the backup files mailed to an extra googlemail account. With 7+ GB of space I won’t run into trouble soon, I guess.
Yes, and if all upgrades would run as smooth as the present one, I would be more than happy.

  4. @Markus Spring – Thanks for the information. I believe I’m using the same backup plugins as you. I have the backup files emailed to one of my home accounts and save a months worth on my SAN.

  5. I just upgraded this week from 2.7 something to 2.8.5. I held my breath – clicked the upgrade button, and poof – it was all over in a matter of seconds. I was prepared for broken theme, broken plugins or something. No problems at all. I give them a lot of credit, those WordPress folks really streamlined the upgrade process.

  6. @Mark – You’re right the WP folks deserve credit for making the “upkeep” of WordPress mostly painless. Even updating WP Plugins is an easy process these days.
