I was to shoot some portraits last week when the mother called and wanted to reschedule because it was cloudy outside. I told her I preferred the overcast sky as the clouds provide a great diffuser. I'm also like you and will attempt shooting anytime of the day. What an inviting path to walk on! There conditions certainly help with range of contrast issues. Working as a forester for over 30 years on the north coast, I saw many foggy days in the woods; they were the best with or without a camera.
