Crane on Water

The above photo was made at the Cooleemee River Park (Bull Hole), Cooleemee, NC. I usually visit the park ever couple of weeks because it’s close to home and there always subjects for making interesting photos.

I tailored post processing on this photo to give a far eastern feel and overall am pleased with the results.

The crane was extremely nervous as it looked for breakfast making for me a difficult time getting close enough for a photo. With a DX camera a 300mm lens would have be plenty (DX: 300mm=450mm), but it was a reach with my full frame Nikon D700. There are situations where a DX camera has real advantages.

A very successful picture for its content and especially for the processing. Very nice job of shooting and posting!

Still, I enjoy seeing the crane surrounded by all the other details that provide a full sense of place.

I agree with Anita in this, with a cropped view you may have got a more detail picture of the crane, but not as interesting. I believe the surrounding environment adds plenty to the final picture. How high isn’t that stone wall with the waterfall, for instance. Looks like a great park to visit on a regular basis.
