200906060800.jpgToday’s the 65th Anniversary of D-Day, a momentous, heroic allied invasion which ultimately led to the liberation of Europe from the dark grip of Nazi Germany.

The operation was the largest single-day amphibious invasion of all time, with 160,000 troops landing on June 6, 1944. 195,700 Allied naval and merchant navy personnel in over 5,000 ships were involved. The landings took place along a 50-mile (80 km) stretch of the Normandy coast divided into five sectors: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword.

This is not a celebration of war or violence but a remembrance of those who were faced with most difficult times and made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

Below is a 2007 France will never forget tribute video from Omaha Beach.
