The labors of spring

Spring at Sloan Park This past weekend was spent in post-winter exterior restoration, power washing the house, washing windows and painting, aka spring cleaning.

Spring cleaning was a big deal growing up. My parents would designate a week to ten days for some serious intensive cleaning of both the inside and outside of the house as well as flower gardens. It wasn’t a fun time for an able bodied kid and was second in unpopularity only to summer garden harvesting time.

There was always a sigh of relief when things were finally picked up, cleaned, dusted, washed, put away and painted to my Mother and Father’s satisfaction.

It was personally significant remember those days this weekend as Saturday, April 4th, was the one year anniversary of my Mother passing away.

The photo was from this past Friday at a local park. Many of the flowers were past their peak but the trees were still beautiful.

Our house in need of a little TLC, but I’m hiring it out this year. No way am I coming home to do chores! It just ain’t gonna happen! :-)

I went to Reedy Creek this weekend to catch the last of the blossoms. I’m sure that they’ll be all gone very soon. It was a delightful hour, though.

@Paul: I don’t blame you a bit for hiring it out. Only coming in on weekends gives you almost no time as it is. There are a couple of things we’ll hire out as well.

I like the flowering trees and the discussion of spring cleaning which sounds like a fine heritage to honor. Cleaning and restoring are great morale builders… we feel much better when these things are accomplished.
