  1. Wow Earl. Nice shot. The detail is just amazing. Care to share your settings for this one?

  2. Hi Richard, Thanks! The settings are listed below the post (Nikon D300 ISO400 500mm f/6.3 1/1250 sec.) The lens I used was a Tamron 200-500mm zoom @ 500mm. I shot in shutter priority mode and played around with the speed until I got the results I wanted. The image has been cropped somewhat. :-)

  3. A Tamron 200-500! My favorite lens for moon shots! :-) I need to dust that baby off and take it to the zoo … one day when I’m nearby. Great detail!

My last moon shot, which you so kindly linked to, was done with my 80-200 mm f/2.8. I had to crop rather tightly after the fact to get that photo.

  4. @Paul: I don’t find a need for the Tamron 200-500 all that often but it certainly fills the bill well when I do want a “longer” lens. For the money, I’ve been very pleased with the quality and versatility of this lens.

    I’d love to give a Nikon 600mm f/4 a try but no-way/no-how could I ever justify a $8-10k lens…not unless I buy that winning lotto ticket. ;-)

It’d be fun to rent one for a couple of days and have a trip arranged for some wildlife photography. Dreams never end, they just get revised and upgraded. :-D
