Hmmm, let's see: You got up before dawn. Drove to the river. Took your camera with you. Waited. Then a heron shows up. Me thinks that you were standing at the intersection of opportunity and preparedness. Some call it luck! ;-) I would call it lucky if you just happen to be in the area, fell over a rock, your shutter clicked, the heron had just landed, and somehow everything was in focus! Luck?
