Sometimes when peering through the viewfinder I see what I believe to be simply a good photo only to realize upon later examination that what was captured was more then first perceived.

For instance, at the time I was taking the photo above, I was most aware of the bird and beautiful pink background flowers as the ingredients for a great picture. However, I can’t honestly say that I was fully aware the soft focused green foliage and intertwining sharp pattern of the vines would contribute so much interests to the scene. For me at least, they play an important role in making this a photo I like.

One of my favorite things about photography is that it’s an exercise in widening ones perceptions. By capturing moments in time we are afforded opportunities to observer in detail what might have been casually missed. We can learn to become more aware.

It makes me want to rush back out and take some more photos! :-)

A beautiful picture of one of my favorite birds. I love to listen to the Mockingbird sing his huge list of sounds. It’s never the same twice, always changing. A very cool bird, indeed.

@Paul: Thanks! This little guy was bold and probably felt that he had to let me know that I was in his territory. I got several shots of him before he decided he’d made his point and flew a short distance away.
