Foster (our dog) and I went for a walk in a local woodland park this afternoon and I took along my camera hoping for an opportunity to get a few “spring photos”. What with the recent situation concerning my mother, it’s been four weeks since I last took a photo.

At first I thought the plants at the park were at an awkward stage. Many of the early bloomers were past their prime and the bright green leafy foliage had not yet started in earnest.

_DSC0022.jpg After a few moments of confronting my initial disappointment, I realized that it was my own mental filters that were preventing me from seeing the abundance of beauty all around. There was beauty in the details that I was not permitting myself to initially see.

The most important element in getting the photos I’d like wasn’t the location, the time of year/day or even the technical and artistic use of the camera, it was being in the moment and being fully aware of all the beauty around me.

_DSC0050.jpg No doubt I need to apply this awareness to more then photography. ;-)

Note to Self: Foster always finds things of interest and I doubt he’s ever not been in the moment…learn from the Dog!

    Wow, wow.. and wow.

Phenomenally good shots! You’ve inspired me to do more of this stuff again. I’ve stopped taking the time to notice interesting and beautiful stuff around me for quite some time now. Beautiful work sir.

  2. Richard,

You’re too kind…Thank you! I had a lot of fun taking these and many other photos yesterday.

Being “aware” is something I’ve found I have to keep on top of. It’s far too easy to “pull the shades” so to speak and trudge on with my daily life. :-)

When you take some photos you like…post them. I’d enjoy seeing them.
