No more walking by Dell Kiosk stores in the mall. I always wondered who buys a computer at a kiosk? According to an article in eWeek no one from here on:

Dell, the world’s second-largest personal computer maker will shut the kiosks, mostly in shopping malls, today — a decision the company said fits with its new retail strategy.

The concept has become largely obsolete as Dell last year departed from a 23-year strategy of direct-only sales and its computers are now available in about 10,000 store outlets and online.

I guess it stands to reason that those who don’t change with the times get left behind. Change is the word.

In the past Dell struggled with changing it’s marketing concept but has shown more flexibility since Michael Dell retook leadership about a year ago.

Ok, you failed to mention the 1000+ people who lost their jobs unexpectedly..

  2. Arturo:
You’re correct. That’s the real tragedy in this closure of Kiosk by Dell…the people who lose their jobs. I haven’t seen an actual number yet, where did you get the 1000+ figure at?

  3. its actually around 800. dell will never realease that because we all had to sign agreaments to hide that info in order to get our severnece package.140 stores times 4 or 5 plus all the management and support employees wich total just under a hundred so actually closer to 750 maybe a little more

  4. Tom,
Thanks for the info…I hope there was a decent severance package.
