Tech news blog – CNET News.com:According to an Evans Data study published on Tuesday, software developers are choosing to write applications for Windows deskop PCs less than they used to.In a survey, Evans Data found that almost 65 percent of software developers are targeting some version of Windows for their applications, as opposed to nearly 75 percent last year….  Developers are choosing to write applications for Linux desktops in almost 12 percent of cases, which is a 34 percent increase from last year.”It’s clear that a shift away (from) Windows began about two yeas ago and the data show that this migration is now accelerating….  The landscape is changing,” said Evans Data president and CEO John Andrews in a statement.Where the developers go so go the applications followed by the users.

So how much is Apple making on each iPhone it sales.  According to a analysis from teardown firm Portelligent:A teardown of Apple’s iPhone by Austin-based Portelligent reveals a likely manufacturing cost of $200 for the 4GB model and $220 for the more expensive 8GB version, signaling extremely high margins for the Cupertino-based company which has already sold more than half a million units, according to one analyst.  The iPhone includes a main microprocessor with an ARM core design and NAND flash storage from Samsung, NXP with another chip sporting an ARM core design, and power management chips from Philips, Texas Instruments, and Linear Technology, according to BusinessWeek via MacNN.This is good news for Apple Stockholders and also signals the ability of Apple to cut prices as competition increases in the future.
