Dell Ubuntu to possibly debut this Thursday, 24 May 2007

According to a linux advocate who runs the Linuxquestions site, an e-mail was received from an unnamed Dell employee who offered some details about Dell’s Linux plans.Blog report: Dell Ubuntu machines to debut Thursday:Dell is expected on Thursday to begin selling three models of its laptop and desktop computers loaded with Ubuntu Linux.It will be very interesting to watch how these PC are marketed and how well they sell. I’m sure Microsoft is watching this experiment as well.

Japan’s Lost Generation - BusinessWeek - Ian Rowley & Kenji HallWhile Japan’s economy is now experiencing reasonable 2% growth, there is a generation of Japanese that are referred to as the “lost” or “suffering” generation. This group is made up of some 3.3 million Japanese aged 25 to 34 who mainly work as temps or contract employees. For these Japanese all is not well in Japan and may never be.

My son Aaron has been a regular reader of this blog and I decided I would offer him an opportunity to contribute…. Aaron, being 26, has a completely fresh and different view of computers, media and the Internet then I do. I hope that this new viewpoint will be entertaining to the readers as well as inspiring for me.

Unsanity’s Shapeshifter 2.4

With Shapeshifter you can either drastically change how OS X looks, or just make some minor changes here and there…. You also have the option to completely change almost every aspect of a theme on your own with the guiTweak app. Some of the themes will also change icons, most have desktop pictures included, lots of them have various color schemes to choose from. I ended up going with a very simple theme, just a few visual and color changes to the windows and menus, different glyphs for minimizing or closing windows, and a different icon set.Overall I don’t see this program as a tool to turn OS X into something else, it just gives it a makeover.
