Today: Eight core Mac Pro workstations & Google Desktop for Mac

Two events today for the Mac fans out there.

First Apple has released a Dual 3GHz Quad-Core Xeon option for the Mac Pro which provides 8 processing cores. No other Mac Pro features seemed to have changed. This feature adds $1498 to the base dual-core 2.66GHz system price. Just in time for the April Adobe CS3 release.

Google announced the Google Desktop for the Mac is ready for download in beta. This is an “Universal” application that indexes the contents of a Mac’s hard drive much the same as Spotlight and Quicksilver. In will work along side Spotlight and even uses Spotlight Plugins. This is the beginning of Googles efforts to release all their products for the Mac.

These events demonstrate Apple’s continued support of the Mac Pro line as a powerful professional workstation and Googles commitment to grow their support for Mac’s. Both events are good news for Mac users.
