No enthusiasm for Microsoft

in MS Windows, Observations, Software

It made decisions based on the needs of small and mid-tier businesses, instead of just its thousand or so largest enterprise customers.Perhaps it was the long antitrust proceedings against Microsoft that caused this change.¬† Or perhaps it‚Äôs come about due to an aging Bill Gates that no longer has the fire in his guts for the business he started.Microsoft stopped focusing on end users and now seemingly makes many decisions based on these two things:1….¬† This new Microsoft policy can be seen in five examples:Example 1: Security.Example 2: Vista upgrade processes.Example 3: Digital rights management.Example 4: Software Protection Platform.Example 5: Vista pricing.I echo the final sentiments in the ComputerWorld article and will let them speak for me.When all is said and done, it’s not that I don’t like Vista.¬† It’s that I’ve lost faith in Microsoft to deal in an evenhanded way with end users and corporate buyers of its software.Despite the welcome improvements in Vista, using the product just isn’t exciting or intriguing any longer.
