Google announced this week that it will be investing roughly $600 million USD in building a new data center facility in Lenior, North Carolina.¬† The new facility will hold server farms that Google will use in its next generation of search and database-intensive applications, particularly its new “Similarity Engine,” which removes redundancy in its crawls and results delivery.

Donna Bogatin at ZDNet makes a good argument that Google probably already dominates the Web’s ecosystem and that their success to date has been mainly due to one important secret weapon: SPIN!Donna also discusses Googles Enterprise strategy via it’s application cloud in an effort to make it the products used everyday instead of Microsoft Office.
