In a recent post, Robert Scoble asked the question “Is Steve jobs sandbagging all of us?” (over the iPhone):

Is Apple sandbagging the iPhone? ¬´ Scobleizer – Tech Geek Blogger:
Somehow I have a sneaking feeling that Steve Jobs will announce in May that he’s “opened up” the iPhone by putting a runtime on it.

What do you think? Is Steve Jobs sandbagging all of us?

Well here’s my take on it Robert.¬† I think that at this point nothing is locked in stone for the iPhone.¬† It was an early announcement done to take advantage of the PR, rumors, & hype; and to also prelude the required FCC filing which would make it public knowledge.¬† The iPhones not due for release until June ’07, which gives Apple time to make decisions about what is or is not going to be part of the iPhone application package.¬† As you’ve indicated, negotiations are still underway with select vendors (Sun) about including their product(s) on the phone.¬† Until these negotiations are completed, Apple (Steve Jobs) is not going to indicate anything.¬† You can call this sandbagging if you want…or just good business.

I believe that the iPhone will be “more” then what we saw at the Macworld Keynote.¬† Exactly what that will include, I can’t say.¬† But Apple is still hard at work on it.
