A deep fried Thankgiving

200611242338
I hope those who celebrated Thanksgiving enjoyed a wonderful holiday with their families. I think I personally identify family with Thanksgiving more then any other holiday, except perhaps Christmas.

We had our Thanksgiving a little earlier then the official day in order to gather all four of our kids and two of their better halves together. It’s hard when dealing with multiple parents and families to make a schedule that suits everyone.

We also tried something a little different when fixing the traditional turkey. We deep fried a turkey in peanut oil. It was simple to do. We of course purchased a deep frier and the oil, then followed the directions. Cooking time is quick…about 3 minutes a pound. Our 17lb turkey was cooked to perfection in only 51 minutes.

It was perhaps the best tasting turkey I’ve ever had. It did not in any way taste oily or greasy. There was a nice brown crust and the meat inside was extremely moist and tasty. There was also a ham but for the first time that I can remember it was passed up for seconds of the turkey.

It was so good that we are probably going to do another one for Christmas.  If you try one be sure and follow all the safety rules.  Anytime you combine open flame and hot oil there is a danger of fire or burns.
