Is OS X not a target for virus coders?

I just spent 15-20 minutes upgrading my Windows XP work PC to a newer version of an enterprise level anti-virus software client. The process included three re-boots and a minor edit of the XP Registry. Now I’ll let this version run on my machine for a couple of weeks before feeling confident enough to say it’s okay to push it out to the other networked PC’s. We’ve got to make sure that it doesn’t break something else.

As a Mac OS X user both at home (PowerMac) and when mobile at work (PowerBook), it‚Äôs moments like this that make me grateful that at least for the time being OS X is safe from viruses. Actually it surprises me that there hasn’t been a virus for OS X yet. I would have thought that some demented coder would want to be the first to claim this prize. Does this mean that OS X is actually fairly secure, or is it like some claim, just not a target yet?
